Basketball Recap: Rector Comes Up Short

Rector fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Malden on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 55-49 to the Green Wave. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Despite the loss, Rector still got an impressive performance from Rylee Wilburn, who shot 4-for-7 from long range and almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Wilburn now owns an excellent 45.2% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Vangilder, who posted eight points.

Rector now has a losing record of 13-14. As for Malden, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rector will head out to square off against Norfork at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Malden, they will venture away from home to take on Poplar Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
