Mater Dei waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes. For the Knights, this counts as revenge for the 8-3 victory the Wooden Shoes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.
Emma Diekemper was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Diekemper was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other pitching news, Lexi CayLor looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Lynn Shirley was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Allyson Willmann was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Mater Dei's win bumped their record up to 9-7-1. As for Teutopolis, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
Coming up, Mater Dei will venture away from home to face off against Casey-Westfield at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Teutopolis, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Tri-City at 12:30 p.m.
