Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Mesa

Mesa waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Highland Hawks by a score of 69-60. For the Jackrabbits, this counts as revenge for the 54-49 victory the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2021.

Mesa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakyi Miles led the charge by putting up 15 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Miles' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Stewart, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Despite the defeat, Highland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ty Crandall went 7 of 15 en route to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Cutchen, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Mesa is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.2 points per game. As for Highland, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.

Mesa wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 80-23 win against Westwood on the 10th. As for Highland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-44 victory against Cesar Chavez on the 9th.
