Recap: Boca Ciega Pirates vs. Plant Panthers

If the Boca Ciega Pirates were feeling good off their 71-27 takedown of the Northeast Vikings on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Boca Ciega received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 63-47 to Plant. While losing is never fun, Boca Ciega can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 355th, while Plant is ranked 135th).

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacquavia Ferguson, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of JaLainah Hunt, who scored 11 points.

Boca Ciega now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Plant, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boca Ciega won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Flagler Palm Coast at 11:00 a.m. on January 13th. Flagler Palm Coast will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Plant will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Lakewood at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. One thing working in Lakewood's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
