Volleyball Game Preview: Somerset Academy Losee Lions vs. Moapa Valley Pirates

Somerset Academy Losee is 0-6 against Moapa Valley since March of 2022 but things could change on Monday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:00 p.m.

Somerset Academy Losee is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Valley, who was ranked tenth at the time (Somerset Academy Losee was ranked 22nd). Somerset Academy Losee fell 3-1 to Valley on Friday. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Somerset Academy Losee started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-12.

Moapa Valley won the last time they faced Mater Academy East Las Vegas, and Spencer Stolworthy did his part to make sure it happened again. Moapa Valley came out on top against Mater Academy East Las Vegas by a score of 3-1 on Friday which was due in part to Stolworthy, who had five digs and three aces. Stolworthy is also crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 26 every time he's taken the court this season.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 23-25, 25-17, 28-26.

The victory made it two in a row for Moapa Valley and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Somerset Academy Losee, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's match: Somerset Academy Losee has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Moapa Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
