Kyron Fields made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jeremy Dietz, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gavin Buchan, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Moshannon Valley posted their closest win since March 25th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Tussey Mountain 9-7. With that victory, the Black Knights/Damsels brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Mason Abernethy was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Moshannon Valley's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Chase Mital was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Moshannon Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Conemaugh Valley pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Moshannon Valley, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-7.
