Recap: Broughton Capitals vs. Sanderson Spartans
The Broughton Capitals struggled with threes on Friday (the Sanderson Spartans had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Broughton fell 56-46 to Sanderson. While losing is never fun, Broughton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while Sanderson is ranked 104th).
Broughton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jordan Page, who scored nine points along with five rebounds, and Hudson Fitzgerald who scored 12 points. Chauncey Sumpter was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sanderson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Patrick Dalton, who scored 13 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendrick Pulley, who scored 12 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Broughton and nudges their season record down to 9-13. As for Sanderson, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Broughton is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Athens Drive at 6:30 p.m. on February 13th. Athens Drive is coming into the match with four straight losses at home, meaning Broughton will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Sanderson, they will head out on the road to square off against Cardinal Gibbons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sanderson comes in on three and Cardinal Gibbons on eight.
