Center Hill hasn't had much luck against Lewisburg recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Center Hill Mustangs will host the Lewisburg Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Saturday, everything went Center Hill's way against Clarksdale as Center Hill made off with a 13-3 win. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly ten runs.
Center Hill got a big performance out of Malachi Howze, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Ryan Brunetz was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Center Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lewisburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Horn Lake a 15-0 shutout on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.
Brady Rodgers looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caden Nelson, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Andrew Hendrichovsky, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Center Hill's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-4. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.75 hits in those games compared to only 5.5 in the others. As for Lewisburg, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Center Hill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Lewisburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
