Softball Recap: Davenport Broncos vs. Mulberry Panthers
After flying high against Ridge Community last Thursday, Davenport came back down to earth. The Davenport Broncos fell 7-4 to the Mulberry Panthers on Monday. The Broncos were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.
Makayla Gonzalez put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Madison Bergeron was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
Davenport's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Mulberry, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Davenport will venture away from home to square off against Lake Wales at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Wales is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Mulberry, they will head out on the road to challenge Winter Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
