Baseball Game Preview: Fairfield Falcons vs. Franklin Yellowjackets

The Fairfield Falcons will venture away from home to square off against the Franklin Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

On Wednesday, Fairfield didn't have quite enough to beat Antioch and fell 5-4. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fairfield got a good showing from Zach O'Reilly, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits O'Reilly has allowed since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Devin Knox was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Donavan Luu, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Franklin never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Amador on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Buffaloes by a score of 13-10.

Devian Bautista was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Miguel Rojas was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Franklin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Franklin has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. Fairfield now has a losing record of 1-2.

Fairfield skirted past Franklin 5-3 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Fairfield repeat their success, or does Franklin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
