Softball Recap: Gilbert Yellowjackets vs. Thomaston Bears
Gilbert had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-5 to make it nine. They came up short against the Thomaston Bears, falling 18-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-6 back in April.
As for Thomaston, their win bumped their record up to 7-4. Considering they have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Thomaston's part, Sloan Walmsley was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Walmsley was also big at the plate, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Addison Patchell was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Decker, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Looking ahead, Gilbert will square off against Shepaug Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Thomaston, they have already played their next contest, an 18-3 victory against Gilbert-Northwestern Regional on the 12th.
