Basketball Recap: Rocky Ford Takes a Loss

Rocky Ford fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Swink on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 44-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Swink Lions. The Meloneers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Despite the defeat, Rocky Ford saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kendra Rodriguez posted ten points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Swink to victory, but perhaps none more so than Addie Mills, who earned six points and 21 boards. Mills is becoming a predictor of Swink's success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 5-2 (and 3-8 when she doesn't). Jocelynn James was another key player, putting up 13 points along with six assists and three steals.

Rocky Ford's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Swink, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.

Rocky Ford will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Swallows Charter Academy at 6:30 p.m. on February 28th. As for Swink, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-41 loss against Calhan on the 19th.
