Baseball Recap: Bret Harte Sets Scoring Season-High Against Riverbank

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bret Harte). They put the hurt on the Riverbank Bruins with a sharp 18-4 win on Friday. The Bullfrogs haven't had any issues with the Bruins recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Sawyer Maurer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Landon Camacho and Bryce Lenard did most of the damage at the plate: Camacho scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Lenard scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Lenard a new career-high. Uriah Gish was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Bret Harte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Bret Harte's record now sits at 12-6. As for Riverbank, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Looking ahead, Bret Harte will head out on the road to challenge Leigh at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bullfrogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Riverbank, they will head out to face off against Summerville at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bruins surely won't give up without a fight.
