Softball Recap: Cape Fear Makes It 14 in a Row on the Road

Cape Fear waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons with a sharp 9-3 victory. Considering the Colts have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Karalina Tomasic spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Allie Dawson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalilah De La Cruz, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Dawson wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Cape Fear kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matchups.

Cape Fear pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average this season. As for C.B. Aycock, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-7.

Looking ahead, Cape Fear will square off against Seventy-First at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Colts are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for C.B. Aycock, they will venture away from home to take on West Johnston at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Golden Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
