South Bend Adams is 7-1 against South Bend Riley since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will welcome the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. South Bend Adams is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, South Bend Adams turned things around against Elkhart Christian Academy on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Elkhart Christian Academy a 12-0 shutout. South Bend Adams not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 16-0).
Abby Kadar and Angela McNellis made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kadar tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, McNellis pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Kadar went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while McNellis went 3-for-4 with three runs. That's the most runs Kadar has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Julia McNellis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Vivianna Passwater, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI and one double.
South Bend Adams always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, South Bend Riley posted their closest win since May 18, 2024 on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out La Porte 6-5. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Slicers: they've now won four in a row.
KAELYNN HOWELL spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on CHLOE WHITMER, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples and two RBI. Another player making a difference was RACHEL HUNT, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The win got South Bend Adams back to even at 8-8. As for South Bend Riley, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Bend Adams has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Bend Riley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
South Bend Adams couldn't quite get it done against South Bend Riley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
