Basketball Recap: Vernon Comes Up Short

Vernon is still winless after their game against Wewahitchka on Thursday, but the team can take solace in the fact it was the closest they've come to winning. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-37 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wewahitchka Gators. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Yellowjackets of the 76-75 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wewahitchka to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rhemy Patrick, who posted ten points along with five rebounds and five steals. Patrick has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Brooks, who earned 14 points and five rebounds.

Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Wewahitchka, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7.

Vernon and Wewahitchka could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Vernon (ranked 735th) will meet Liberty County (ranked 172nd) at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Similarly, Wewahitchka (ranked 635th) will meet Arnold (ranked 264th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
