OXNARD, Calif. -
Oxnard (Calif.) kept up a steady attack all game long to beat
Rio Mesa (Oxnard, Calif.), 35-7, on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the first quarter, the Yellowjackets were up 14-0 at the half.
Oxnard grew its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. OHS scored once in the quarter on a rushing touchdown.
Rio Mesa's lone touchdown came on a 10-yard pass from
Cameron Wrout to
Brad Borodaty in the fourth quarter.
The Yellowjackets entered the contest giving up 19.4 points per game this year. A defensively strong Oxnard kept the Spartans well below the 19.8 points it had been averaging per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 28-14 win for OHS.
The loss was the third in a row for Rio Mesa.
In a Pacific View game next week Rio Mesa (1-8) takes on Camarillo, and Oxnard (3-6) will go up against Pacifica also in a Pacific View game.
