Softball Recap: Southwestern Wildcats vs. Pecatonica Vikings

After flying high against Boscobel on Monday, Southwestern came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell just short of the Pecatonica Vikings by a score of 8-7 on Thursday. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Hailey Brant spent all 10.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on 18 hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Riley Lewerke and Brynlee Droessler did some serious damage despite the final result: Lewerke went 4-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Droessler got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that Droessler has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Muller, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Southwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Pecatonica, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-12 record.

As of now, neither Southwestern nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
