Volleyball Recap: Melrose Falls Despite Big Games from Sabine Wenzel and Gen Overlan

Melrose suffered their biggest loss since September 16th on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to the Wakefield Memorial Warriors. The Red Raiders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

While Melrose had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-23, 25-23.

Gen Overlan and Sabine Wenzel certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Overlan had 11 digs, while Wenzel had ten kills. Wenzel is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had seven or more in each of the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season.

Brendia Diaz was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had seven digs and one assist.

Melrose's defeat ended a four-match streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5. As for Wakefield Memorial, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Melrose will face off against rival Woburn Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Wakefield Memorial is set to challenge their familiar foe Lexington at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
