Volleyball Recap: Santiago Comes Up Short on the Road Against Murrieta Valley

Santiago had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Murrieta Valley Nighthawks by a score of 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Sharks in their meetings with the Nighthawks: they've now lost three in a row.

Santiago wouldn't go down easily and took Murrieta Valley into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 19-25, 25-16, 25-22, 20-25, 16-14.

Addie Ellis paced Santiago's offense, picking up 12 kills. Ellis got some help from Kaedyn Blotzer and her 17 assists. Emerson Newton controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santiago will head out to face off against Ontario Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Murrieta Valley, they are headed away from home for the first time to challenge Beaumont at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
