League recap: Show Low extends winning streak with victory over Snowflake

Adding to the longest winning streak in IV Section V this week, Show Low beat Snowflake 40-22. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Cougars.

Payson lost to Blue Ridge 63-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Show Low's dynamic duo of Colby Maxwell and Quintan Clark proved to be unstoppable against the Lobos, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Maxwell threw for 224 yards and 4 touchdowns and Clark had 112 yards receiving. Trevor Solomon helped Show Low's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 59 yards.

Porter Black made the biggest impact on defense this week as Snowflake lost to Randy Ricedorff's team. The 5-foot-11 junior recorded 1 fumble.

He went 13-21 with 0 interceptions.

The leading receiver in the league this season is Tyus Sarnowski. The Payson star has 40 catches for 753 yards.

The Cougars' Maxwell is within 59 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against the Longhorns. So far this year, Maxwell has thrown for 1,941 yards with 22 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.

Chris Johnson of the the Yellow Jackets is only 88 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 91 carries Johnson has accumulated 912 yard this year.

Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Payson's Sarnowski goes up against Show Low's Solomon.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Blue Ridge takes on the Falcons. Paul Moro's team is currently in third, while Fountain Hills is in fourth.

The Cougars made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,409 from 1,865. The advance stemmed from a 40-22 victory over Ron Tenney's team last week.
