Basketball Recap: Fort Myers' Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

Fort Myers entered their match against Port Charlotte on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Fort Myers Green Wave fell 58-45 to the Port Charlotte Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while the Pirates are ranked 101st).

Fort Myers' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tommy Halgrim, who posted eight points along with five boards and three blocks. Vinny Carbonara was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Fort Myers' defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-8. As for Port Charlotte, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-5.

Fort Myers has already played their next contest, a 61-52 loss against Palmetto Ridge on the 23rd. As for Port Charlotte, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-56 victory against Booker on the 28th.
