The Mountain View Toros will take on the St. Mary's Knights in a tournament on Saturday.
Mountain View saw some tournament action on Friday. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mountain Pointe. The Toros have struggled against the Pride recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Mountain View got a good showing from Landon Brewer, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Beckham Barney was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Max Germaine was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Even though they lost, Mountain View lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's won against Gilbert on Thursday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. St. Mary's had just enough and edged out Boulder Creek 8-6. The Knights' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
The team relied heavily on Jacob Del La Rosa, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Javier Romero, who scored three runs while going 2-for-5.
St. Mary's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Mountain View, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Mountain View came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Mary's in their previous meeting back in March of 2016, sneaking past 7-5. Does Mountain View have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Mary's turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
