Football Recap: Martin Mcdonald Key Part of Team Effort in Red Devils Win

Hawkinsville was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 23-12 victory over the Rutland Hurricanes. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won three in a row.

Hawkinsville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Martin Mcdonald out in front who rushed for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Red Devils also got a significant boost from Nieem Blair, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hawkinsville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 219 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 219 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Hawkinsville's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Johnathan Solomon with two sacks.

Rutland lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Troy Lester, who rushed for 83 yards on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Cam Roosevelt, who rushed for 92 yards on only eight carries.

Hawkinsville's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Rutland, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Hawkinsville and Rutland will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Red Devils see the field they'll take on Wheeler County at 7:30 p.m. on the 26th. As for Rutland, their break will end when they face Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on the 26th.
