Baseball Recap: Brawley's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

Brawley dropped their record down to 14-12 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since April 1st.

Brawley got a good showing from Aiden Philips, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Philips has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jackson Brummet and Tate Preece stepped up to the plate in a big way. Brummet went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Preece went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Preece has become a key player for Brawley: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 10-11 otherwise.

As for Palo Verde Valley, they moved to 13-11-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

On Palo Verde Valley's side, the team relied heavily on Dominic Rios, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most hits Rios has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Demetrius Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brawley will square off against Ramona at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Palo Verde Valley, they will head out to take on Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
