Baseball Recap: Hattiesburg Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Hattiesburg, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Cathedral Green Wave on Monday.

Hattiesburg got a great performance from JB Bryant as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Hattiesburg let Tyler Weatherspoon and Jacob Polk run wild. Weatherspoon got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Polk went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Polk is becoming a predictor of Hattiesburg's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Quentin Reuben, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Hattiesburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hattiesburg pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cathedral, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Green Wave beat Hattiesburg by a score of 5-4 on Wednesday.
