Softball Game Preview: McKeel Academy Wildcats vs. Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars

The McKeel Academy Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

McKeel Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over Lemon Bay.

Meanwhile, Academy of the Holy Names waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 14-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Taylor Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paris Land, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kacey Scott was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.

Academy of the Holy Names hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.

McKeel Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Academy of the Holy Names, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9.

McKeel Academy beat Academy of the Holy Names 7-2 in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
