Melbourne and Palm Beach Gardens squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Melbourne had to settle for second. They fell 5-0 to the Gators. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Brooklynn Steidl spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Melbourne saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brookelynn Dolin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Melbourne's defeat dropped their record down to 15-13. As for Palm Beach Gardens, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-7.

Melbourne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Palm Beach Gardens, they will host Bloomingdale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulls' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Gators' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
