Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Stone Memorial

Stone Memorial entered their tilt with Cumberland County on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Jets an 18-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Cumberland County's batters probably weren't too happy with Kenzie Jackson, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (she gave up two walks). Jackson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ashely Whittenburg was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Camdyn Holbrook, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Stone Memorial lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Stone Memorial's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cumberland County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
