Baseball Recap: Chapin Takes Down Ranked River Bluff

Chapin faced River Bluff in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Gators. That six run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

Ty Harper made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Weston Plotner, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Charlie Mejia was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Chapin and bumps their season record up to 7-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for River Bluff, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-2.

Chapin will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gators: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
