Baseball Game Preview: Carroll County Cavaliers vs. Grayson County Blue Devils

The Carroll County Cavaliers will challenge the Grayson County Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Grayson County will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Carroll County extended their winning streak to 13 on Tuesday. Everything went the Cavaliers' way against James River as they made off with a 12-2 victory.

Meanwhile, Grayson County got the win against George Wythe on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-1. The win continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Maroons: they've now won four in a row.

Makray Goad was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Grayson County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adam Pennington, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Mav Goad, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Grayson County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Carroll County's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Grayson County, their victory bumped their record up to 10-6.

Carroll County took their win against Grayson County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-2 score. Do the Cavaliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
