Baseball Recap: Claiborne Wins Going Away Against Cordia

While Claiborne put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Cordia. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Emery Keiter was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Claiborne's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-2 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Garrett Keiter was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Claiborne is 6-2 when Keiter posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Hunter Greer was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Claiborne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .680. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Claiborne now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Cordia, their defeat was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, Claiborne will challenge Grainger at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cordia, they will face off against Cosby at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lions are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
