Diamond Bar extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-21 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Claremont Wolfpack. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolfpack this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 on Tuesday.
Silas Swartz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
As for Claremont, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-12-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.
On Claremont's side, not much got past Aaron Banfield, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Diamond Bar off the board. Banfield also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Wolfpack are 6-3 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-9-1 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Ramzey Farah was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.
While Diamond Bar had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
