Softball Recap: Marquette Extends Winning Streak to Six

Marquette entered their tilt with Princeville on Saturday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top against the Princes by a score of 12-7. The Crusaders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Princes, too.

Kinley Rick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hunter Hopkins, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Avery Durdan was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Marquette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Princeville only posted an OBP of .290.

Marquette pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Princeville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Marquette will have a chance to go back-to-back against Princeville: the pair will be back at it again later today.
