Baseball Recap: Smith Academy Triumphs

Smith Academy's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Mahar Regional Senators. This was payback for the Falcons, who suffered a 12-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Harrison LaFlamme was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. LaFlamme was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one double. LaFlamme is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Ryann Mccoy was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Owen Belden, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Smith Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Mahar Regional, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smith Academy will venture away from home to face off against Lenox Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Millionaires have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.8 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mahar Regional, they are taking a road trip to take on Turners Falls at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
