Baseball Game Preview: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. North Brunswick Scorpions

Ashley has gone 8-2 against North Brunswick recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Screaming Eagle will take on the Scorpions at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ashley has three straight wins, North Brunswick has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Ashley proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 12) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past South Brunswick 4-2.

Ashley got a great performance from Colin Beddard as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. Beddard has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Potter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, North Brunswick fell victim to Laney and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Buccaneers, falling 6-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Scorpions have suffered since May 2, 2024.

Ashley's record is now 19-4. As for North Brunswick, their loss dropped their record down to 7-15.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ashley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Ashley couldn't quite get it done against North Brunswick when the teams last played on April 1st as they fell 5-0. Can the Screaming Eagle avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
