Softball Recap: Brown County Eagles vs. Bloomington South Panthers
Brown County extended their losing streak to seven on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-8 in the process. They came up short against the Bloomington South Panthers, falling 8-2. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 6-1 to the Panthers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Bloomington South, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.
For Bloomington South's part, Brilee McGlothlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks. McGlothlin has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Akasha Burton was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Bella Simmons also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brown County will square off against West Vigo at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bloomington South, they will head out to take on Floyd Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 3.5, the Highlanders 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
