Basketball Recap: Newport Central Catholic Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Dixie Heights

Newport Central Catholic lost to Dixie Heights back in December of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds walked away with a 53-40 win over the Dixie Heights Colonels. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Thoroughbreds' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Colonels are ranked 33rd).

Newport Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Dixie Heights, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-5 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newport Central Catholic will host Newport at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Newport is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.8 points per game this season. As for Dixie Heights, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Kentucky Country Day at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Dixie Heights is facing Kentucky Country Day at the right time seeing as Kentucky Country Day is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
