Baseball Game Preview: Tuscarora Huskies vs. John Champe Knights

The Tuscarora Huskies are taking a road trip to challenge the John Champe Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tuscarora comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Tuscarora came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Woodgrove by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday.

Tuscarora saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chas Battaglia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Ashton Peshke also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, John Champe gave up the first runs last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Loudoun Valley. That's two games straight that the Knights have won by exactly two runs.

Cole Rounds-Raabe was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. Guy Jackson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

John Champe's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Tuscarora, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Tuscarora took their victory against John Champe in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tuscarora since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
