Basketball Recap: Averi Winters' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Plattsmouth over Concordia

Plattsmouth has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-37 heartbreaker at the hands of the Concordia Mustangs. The Blue Devils were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Plattsmouth's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Averi Winters, who posted nine points and eight steals. Winters is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolie Dix, who put up 13 points and four steals.

Concordia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eliza Secrest, who earned 11 points and six boards. The dominant performance also gave Secrest a new career-high in assists (three). Emersyn Spurgeon was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Plattsmouth's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Concordia, their record is now 8-11.

Coming up, Plattsmouth will challenge Arlington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Plattsmouth is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season. As for Concordia, they have already played their next matchup, a 46-30 win against Mercy on the 8th.
