Baseball Recap: Jones Comes Up Short

Jones was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against the Wekiva Mustangs, falling 24-9. The Fightin' Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in April of 2021.

Nathaniel Pierre and Malachi Porter stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pierre scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2, while Porter scored two runs and stole five bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Zynn Williams-Hopkins, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-2.

Even though they lost, Jones always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Jones' defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Wekiva, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.

Jones wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 22-2 loss against Edgewater on the 25th. As for Wekiva, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 9-8 defeat against Davenport on the 21st.
