Basketball Recap: Cahokia Starts off Right with Win over Mt. Zion

Cahokia had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They strolled past the Mt. Zion Braves with points to spare, taking the game 59-42. For the Comanches, this counts as revenge for the 64-55 victory the Braves walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2024.

Cahokia's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corrion Raiford, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Raiford is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 56% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Taven Miller, who shot 64% from the field on his way to 17 points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Cahokia and Belleville West will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played. As for Mt. Zion, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Springfield at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
