The Chowchilla Tribe will take on the Washington Union Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Chowchilla is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Chowchilla will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Coalinga on Friday. Chowchilla was the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over Coalinga. The Tribe have beaten the Horned Toads the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Horned Toads has come to flipping the script.
Nick Grissom made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Grissom was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Adam Walters was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Davian Stephenson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
Chowchilla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Washington Union challenged Taft on Friday. Washington Union put the hurt on Taft with a sharp 8-1 win. The Panthers' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Washington Union's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isaiah Samora, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. Another was Cole Roth, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Washington Union pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chowchilla, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Both Chowchilla and Washington Union just can't seem to miss. Chowchilla has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Washington Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chowchilla skirted past Washington Union 1-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Will Chowchilla repeat their success, or does Washington Union have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
