Baseball Game Preview: Mission College Prep Royals vs. Cabrillo Conquistadores

The Mission College Prep Royals are taking a road trip to challenge the Cabrillo Conquistadores at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mission College Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Mission College Prep will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Arroyo Grande, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Royals came out on top against the Eagles on Friday by a score of 6-5 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Royals have posted against the Eagles since April 10, 2018.

Thomas Glenn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyson Hickman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Mission College Prep's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 3-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't). Jake Hanchett was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Mission College Prep lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 5-2 when they post two or more home runs.

Meanwhile, Cabrillo fell victim to St. Joseph and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 6-0 to the Knights. The Conquistadores haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Mission College Prep now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Cabrillo, their loss dropped their record down to 10-10.

Mission College Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Cabrillo when the teams last played back in March, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
