Basketball Recap: St. John Paul II Catholic Lions vs. Salome Frogs
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Combs, St. John Paul II Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They slipped by the Salome Frogs 38-37.
St. John Paul II Catholic can attribute much of their success to Sofia Cervantes, who posted 17 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Cervantes has scored at least a third of St. John Paul II Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Contreras, who earned ten points.
Salome lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Myranda Cruz, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 12 points and three steals. Cruz is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brianna Thomas, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.
St. John Paul II Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Salome, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
St. John Paul II Catholic will take on North Valley Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Salome, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-43 loss against Phoenix Christian on the 4th.
