Recap: Mendenhall Tigers vs. Lawrence County Cougars
The Mendenhall Tigers lost to the Lawrence County Cougars back in December of 2022, but the Mendenhall Tigers didn't allow the Lawrence County Cougars the same satisfaction on Tuesday. Mendenhall walked away with a 60-49 win over Lawrence County. Given Mendenhall's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Lawrence County is ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mendenhall's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Montavis Hobbs, who scored 14 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. The contest was Hobbs' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Rankin, who scored 13 points.
Mendenhall has yet to lose a contest on the road this season, leaving them with a 9-3 record. As for Lawrence County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mendenhall will take on Bay Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bay Springs will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Lawrence County, they will be playing at home against Franklin County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
