Basketball Recap: Santa Ynez Takes a Loss

Santa Ynez was the 86-69 winner over Bishop Diego when they last played one another back in November of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Santa Ynez Pirates took a 62-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop Diego Cardinals on Monday.

Despite the loss, Santa Ynez still got an impressive performance from Lucas Ollenburger, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Ollenburger is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jude Pritchard, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Santa Ynez's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Bishop Diego, they pushed their record up to 9-11 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Santa Ynez and Bishop Diego could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Santa Ynez (ranked 508th) will meet Mission College Prep (ranked 86th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Bishop Diego (ranked 736th) will meet St. Bonaventure (ranked 237th) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
