Basketball Recap: McKinley Comes Up Short

McKinley lost against South Range back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The McKinley Red Dragons fell to the South Range Raiders 69-64. While losing is never fun, the Red Dragons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 578th, while the Raiders are ranked 153rd).

When it comes to explaining why McKinley lost, don't look at True Carey-Hardin. Despite the final result, he went 11 for 21 en route to 28 points and seven boards. Thanks to that strong game, Carey-Hardin now owns an excellent 45.3% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Izaiah Redd, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

McKinley's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-12. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points over those games. As for South Range, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, McKinley and South Range will both be playing Girard the next time they take the court. South Range will host Girard at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, while McKinley will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
