Baseball Recap: Jackson Academy Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Madison-Ridgeland Academy

Jackson Academy faced Madison-Ridgeland Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Raiders took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The Raiders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 6-2.

Justin Word made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Landyn Baker, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Jackson Academy dropped their record down to 15-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Madison-Ridgeland Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season.

While Jackson Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
