Baseball Recap: Christ the King's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Christ the King had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Corvian Community on Wednesday. The Crusaders' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinals an 8-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for the Crusaders as they're now sitting on five straight.

Owen Shipman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Christ the King got a big performance out of James Phillips, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Troy Alderfer, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Christ the King pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Corvian Community, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Christ the King will head out to take on Lincoln Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Crusaders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Corvian Community, they will head out on the road to face off against Union Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
